Travelers Dance of Iowa City will present an evening of new choreography and company repertory on August 24, 2007 at the Englert Civic Theatre. This performance is part of the Press Citizen’s Community Spotlight Series and is free and open to the public.

The program will feature new works using original music by Dave Moore who will perform live.  Paintings by Gene Anderson,  photographs by Sandy Dyas, and additional music by Bo Ramsey will incorporated into several of the dances.

Established in 1998 as a group of friends performing occasionally, Travelers Dance has continued to develop. From the beginning the vision has been consistent: To expand the notion of what is possible with dance by collaborating with artists of varied disciplines and to build new audiences for dance. Travelers also hopes that these collaborations will help audiences experience the performances on many levels: emotional, visual-sculptural and theatrical.

Current associations include: visual artist Gene Anderson, poet Marvin Bell, Red Cedar Chamber Music, composer Jerry Owen, playwright Lisa Schlesinger and most recently Hurley and Dancers from Des Moines. Travelers Dance has been recognized and supported by the Iowa Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, The Iowa Writers Workshop, Artists Embassy International, and several local businesses.

Our community outreach has included, University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City Public Library, Pathways Adult Day Care Center, Senior Center, Englert Renovation Project, local arts fundraisers and numerous children’s programs. We have brought contemporary dance to nontraditional venues such as museums, pedestrian malls, libraries, art galleries, and private homes.
